Mr. John Albert Gould, aged 65 years, of Trungley Road, Barmedman, collapsed and died in Main St., West Wyalong on Monday afternoon.
His sudden and unexpected death was a severe shock to members of his family and friends. He had been in West Wyalong for some hours, had transacted business at business houses, and had apparently been feeling quite well.
Prior to purchasing a property on the Trungley Road, between Barmedman and Morangorell, about two years ago, the late Mr. Gould, with Mrs. Gould and his sons and daughters, lived in the Clear Ridge district for over 20 years. During that time he earned the goodwill and esteem of all his neighbours in the district.
He gave assistance to the Red Cross, the Patriotic Fund, and was an active member of the Farmers & Settlers Association.
When working bees were held for the Clear Ridge Hall, or for any other purpose he was one of the willing workers.
The late Mr. Gould was born near Benalla, in Victoria. For some years he was share farming at Mangoplah in the Wagga district, and Lockhart, and for a short time before purchasing his land in the Clear Ridge district, he had a property near Tallimba.
He is survived by Mrs. Gould, three sons and two daughters. The sons are Donald (Barmedman), Vernon (Clear Bidge), Ian (Barmedman) and daughters are Mrs. J. Herridge (Cowra) and Mrs. A. C. Rettke (Gulargambone).
The funeral at West Wyalong on Tuesday afternoon was largely attended, and there were many floral tributes.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Alan Blackert, and in terment was made in the Methodist portion of the Wyalong cemetery.
