Allen was qualified to hold an amateur radio licence and shortly after began radio broadcasts using borrowed gramophone records for usical interludes. His broadcast licence was granted in 1930, and he launched Radio Station 2KO, broadcasting a few hours each day and in the first month earned £4. in 1927.
Allen Fairhall married Monica Clelland Ballantyne, daughter of John Ballantyne and Ellen Langley O'Rourke, on 23 Apr 1936 in Randwick, New South Wales.
Allen was was elected to Newcastle City Council, and served as Chief Warden of National Emergency Services for the city. At a national level, he was appointed Supervising Engineer of Radio and Signals Supplies for the Commonwealth Dept. of Munitions After the War, Allen sold 2KO and purchased a dairy farm at East Gresford on 7 Dec 1941.
Allen Fairhall witnessed the marriage of William John Howard Harrington Stanton and Evangeline Maud Parker on 6 Nov 1943 at St John's Church of England Church in Cooks Hill, New South Wales, (Recorded as widow and widower.)
Allen was Federal Member for the electorate of Paterson, during which time he served as Minister for the Interior and Works (1956-1958), Minister for Supply (1965-1966) and Minister for Defence (26 Jan 1966-12 Nov 1969) bt 10 Dec 1949 - 29 Sep 1969.
