We regret having to record in this issue the death of Mr. W. G. Whatman, which sad event took place at his late residence near Bowral last Saturday morning. The deceased gentleman, who was for long a sufferer from dropsy, had been under the doctor for some time, but no hopes were held out for his recovery. He had resided at Glenquarry for many years, following the occupation of a farmer, and was a widely known and highly esteemed resident of the district. The last few years of his life were, however, lived in Bowral. The deceased, who was 59 years of age, leaves a widow and a grown-up family to mourn their loss. The interment took place on Sunday last, a large number being present at the graveside, where Mr. J. Cole conducted the funeral service, in the unavoidable absence of the Rev. E. Hargrave. As a mark of the esteem in which the late Mr. Whatman was held many beautiful wreaths were received, besides cards and letters of sympathy. Mr. J. Beavan, of Bowral, was the undertaker. He was buried at the Anglican Cemetery (Grave location recorded as: Section 3) in
Bowral, New South Wales.

Mrs. Sophia Whatman, whose death was recorded briefly in last issue of The Mail, was the relict of the late William George Whatman, who predeceased her some twenty years ago. Mrs. Whatman was in her eightieth year, having been born in Lower Mittagong in 1836. She had been living with her son Robert, and had been in feeble health for more than a year. Mr. and Mrs. Whatman had a family of nine, of whom two sons (Messrs. R. Whatman, Glenquarry, and George Whatman of 'Riverbank,' Bowral, and two daughters (Mrs. W . Ford, Glenquarry and Mrs. Bradman, Bowral) survive. There are many grand children and great grandchildren, most of them resident in the Southern Highlands. Although the notice had been short, there was a representative attendance at the funeral at Bowral, at which Rev. T. Distin Morgan officiated."
