Frank William Bowden married Sarah Waters, daughter of George Wattus and Mary Boots, on 26 Mar 1851 at Wesleyan Methodist Church in Maitland, New South Wales.
Frank and Sarah lived in Stroud, New South Wales, in 1857 following the disastrous floods the previous year, and Frank took up a lease of 60 acres on the Karuah River.
He and Sarah Wattus decided to move to higher country because of Frank's breathing difficulties following a tuberculosis infecion. So the family, including nine children, with the youngest child just nine months old, went by wagon via Gloucester, across the Manning River, over the range to Nowendoc and along the range to "Branga Park", which was 20 miles south of Walcha. Frank had been employed by the Waugh family, after whom Wauchope was named, but Sarah decided to move into Walcha township and the family obtained what casual work they could in that area.
