Samuel Goodchild Betts married Louisa Smith, daughter of Alfred Smith and Mary Ann Benson, on 11 Mar 1903 in Kempsey, New South Wales.
Samuel was a farmer, on 165 acres of land at Koppin Yarratt Road in Comboyne, New South Wales, in 1914.
Samuel Goodchild Betts died on 31 Oct 1934 at Combined Street in Wingham, New South Wales, at the age of 57 and his death was reported in the Macleay Chronicle of 7 Nov. 1934 as follows: Mr. Samuel Goodchild Betts. Wednesday last, at the Wingham residence of his daughter, Mrs. N. Stewart, there passed away a fine personality in the person of Mr. Samuel Goodchild Betts. The deceased gentleman, aged 59 years; was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Goodchild Betts, of Euroka. He was born and reared at Euroka, and for some years, in his early manhood made a distinct success of farming on the hill country of Euroka Creek, being noted for his industry and ability to work.
About 32 years ago he married Miss Louisa Smith, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Smith, of Kempsey. About 1912 Mr. Betts selected land in the then virgin scrub country at Comboyne, which he converted into a fine property. He is survived by his widow, three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Norman Stewart (Wingham), Nurse L. K. Betts (of the Coast Hospital, Sydney), and Miss Daphne Betts (Kendall); while the sons are Messrs. William Betts (Kendall) and Samuel Betts (Comboyne).
Mesdames A. Harris and J. Spickett, of Kempsey are sisters, and Messrs. William J. Betts (Ryde), Rodgers Betts (Aldavilla), and Joseph Betts (Concord) are brothers. The funeral, under conduct of Mr. Jos. T. Walker, took place to Kempsey Church of England Cemetery on Friday, the Ven. Archdeacon Tress officiating at a service in All Saints' Church and at the graveside. Much sympathy is extended the bereaved family. The late Mr. Betts was a member of Lodge Manning 66; and Wor. Bro. Martin accompanied by Very Wor. Bro. D. Saxby and Wor. Bro. Cook came from Taree and held a Masonic Service at the graveside, Very Wor. Bro. A. A. Peade giving the Grand Public Honors and the cause of his death was recorded as chronic Bright's Disease and/or Polycystic Kidneys.
He was buried on 2 Nov 1934 in West Kempsey, New South Wales, following a service at All Saints' Church of England, Kempsey.
