William Anderson was born on 2 Mar 1818 at Alyth, Blairgowrie in Perth, Perthshire. He was baptised on 14 Mar 1818 in Alyth, Perthshire.

William Anderson married Ann Hogg on 21 Jan 1841 in Stirling according to William's Death Certificate.

William Anderson and Ann Anderson immigrated on 22 Nov 1856 to Sydney, New South Wales, on the immigrant ship "Edward Oliver."
William lived at Grey Town, near Fredericktown in Macleay River, New South Wales, in 1862.

William Anderson married Margaret McQueen on 10 Dec 1862 at St Andrew's Scots Presbyterian Church, Kent Street in Sydney, New South Wales, according to the rites of the Church of Scotland. Margaret's age was recorded as 33 years and Rev. John Dougall performed the marriage ceremony.
William was a Farmer.

William Anderson died on 8 Aug 1915 at "Burnside" in East Kempsey, New South Wales, at the age of 97 and his Obituary in the Macleay Argus of 13 August 1915 read as follows:
When Mr. William Anderson, whose death occurred on Sunday morning last at his residence - "Burnside," East Kempsey, commenced farming operations on the Macleay River in the mid-"fifties," things were not nearly so comfortable as they are to-day. For instance, in his early farming experience on this river, this fine old pioneer threshed his maize with a flail, and when he grew wheat, it was threshed in the same way, prior to being converted into flour on the farm. Present day farmers, with all the latest labour-saving machinery at their command, will easily recognise the disadvantages of the farmer's life in the early days in this country.
Born in Alyth, Scotland, in 1818, he was a keen sportsman, greatly enjoying fishing and hunting excursions in the neighbourhood of his Scottish home. He often recounted his experiences, his hunting trips, and never forgot his first visit to John 0' Groat's house in the north.
Convinced that he could better himself, he came out to Australia in 1856, accompanied by his wife (nee Annie Hogg) and five children. Shortly after arrival in New South Wales, he rented a farm near Gladstone, from the late Mr. John Verge, and lived on that holding with
his family for two years, and it was there that his wife died.
Soon after that sad event, the late Mr. Anderson moved on to a property which he had purchased on Belmore River, and now known as Grey Farm. In 1862 he again married, his second wife being Miss Margaret McQueen, daughter of Mr. Peter McQueen, of Edinburgh. On ''Grey Farm" the subject of this sketch experienced all the up-and-downs of a pioneer's life, but he faced difficulties which would seem to many impossible to overcome, and through all he did not neglect to foster public worship, even travelling in this connection to the Bellinger and other outlying districts. Travelling in those days was not done by swift motor cars over good roads but rough and lonely bush tracks had to be negotiated, and on occasions Mr. Anderson found it necessary, to swim his horse over flooded streams. He would periodically accompany Rev. Rutledge, now a Judge of the Queensland Supreme Court, to the Bellinger, a journey that was regarded in those early days as somewhat of a feat.
For a number of years Mr. Anderson had dwelt in retirement at East Kempsey with his wife and daughters. His faculties were apparently unimpaired, in fact, as Rev. David Smith stated at last meeting of the Caledonian Society, his vitality was wonderful, until a few days before his death. He was a Freemason and a foundation member of the Macleay Caledonian Society.
He leaves a widow and ten sons and daughters. The surviving members of the first family are Mrs. J. Ide . (Upper Orara), Mrs. Waddell (Clengowrie, Inverell), Mr James Anderson (Gladstone) ; and of the second, Mrs. J. H. Betts (Euroka), Mrs. C. W: Patterson (Austral Eden), Misses M. and V. Anderson, and Messrs. W. R. Anderson, Peter Anderson and Charles Anderson (Belmore River).
Of the first family two sons are dead, and one son and a daughter of the second marriage. Mr. Anderson's grandchildren number 43, and there are 58 great grandchildren, the total number of the descendants (including members above mentioned) being 111. The funeral on Monday of this, pioneer (whose age was 97) was largely attended, the interment taking place in East Kempsey cemetery, Rev. David Smith conducting the last sad rites. The carriers were Messrs. F. Fugler, H. Brown, M. Eakin, and C. P. Gralton; and the pall-bearers Messrs. J. Gilfillan, Jas. Campbell, G. Bond, A. Bond, D. J. Lobban and T. A. Miller. Many beautiful wreaths were in evidence, including one each from the Masonic Lodge and the Macleay Caledonian Society, both of which bodies deceased was a highly respected member. Mr. J. R. Garland conducted the funeral
and the cause of his death was recorded as Cerebral Thrombosis and Senility.
He was buried on 9 Aug 1915 at Presbyterian Cemetery in East Kempsey, New South Wales.
