Joseph Chambers immigrated on 18 Nov 1834 to Sydney, New South Wales, on board the ship "Hooghley" with 259 other convicts, having left England on 25 July 1834. He was a partner of Maria Palmer and the cause of his death was recorded as follows: A horsebreaker named Joseph Chambers, well known in Maitland as a daring and skilful rider, was thrown from a young horse and instantaneously killed in April, on the spot where Messrs. Cohen and Co.'s warehouse now stands. The bit snapped in the horse's mouth, and Chambers, losing control of the animal - which was extremely difficult to manage - was thrown on a heap of loose boulders. The unfortunate man struck one of these with his head, the back of which was frightfully smashed. Constable Kedwell, who saw Chambers thrown, reached the spot where he fell about a minute after the accident, but death had already taken place.

Joseph Chambers died in Apr 1852 in Maitland, New South Wales.
